As the events in Ukraine continue to unfold, the Eastern Synod joins our global partners in prayer

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
(Ps 46:1)

Eternal God, amid all the turmoil and changes of the world your love is steadfast and your strength never fails. In this time of danger and trouble, be to us a sure guardian and rock of defense. Guide the leaders of all nations with your wisdom, comfort those in distress, and grant us courage and hope to face the future; through Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord. Amen.
(Evangelical Lutheran Worship, P. 76)
Dear friends,

We challenge all members of the Synod to engage with Black History Month. Every week, during the month of February, you will receive resources included with your weekly Synod Newsletter, that will help you. However, you might choose to read a book by a Black author, watch a documentary or video, listen to a podcast, etc.... then, discuss it with someone - tell your pastor what you learned! Ask your pastor what they are doing this month to engage with Black History Month!

Send an email to our Racial Justice Committee about your thoughts or whatever comments you may have. Whatever you do, just do something! We would love to hear from you!

During this final week of the month, we encourage you to explore a wide range of ADDITIONAL RESOURCES which have been collected for your use:

Articles
Artists
Authors & Poets
Influential Figures

We also invite you to join Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Waterloo for their annual Black History Month Worship Service (ZOOM) on Sunday, February 27 @ 11am. CLICK HERE TO JOIN

For more information and additional links, please visit the Black History Month page on the Eastern Synod website.

Diaconal Sunday

From ELCIC News
This year on February 27 we celebrate Diaconal Sunday - the day Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) celebrates the witness expressed through service (diakonia). Through our baptism, all Christians are called to share God's word and to serve our neighbours in Christ's name. It is also a day to recognize and give thanks to God for all who serve in official calls as deacons in our church. Use our 2022 resources when you click here.
Tell us what God's Creation means to you! Get messy...have fun! Take a picture of your creation or send us a video!

Assembly 2022

From ELCIC News
An update on Assembly 2022 was shared to both churches in January in which planning for the much anticipated gathering between the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada and the Anglican Church of Canada has been deeply impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic over the last two years. The Assembly 2022 Planning Committee has been trying to navigate the difficult decision whether a gathering can be held in-person. On Friday, February 18, the Assembly 2022 Planning Committee has decided to postpone Assembly 2022 following prayerful consideration. To read the full announcement, please click here.

**Please note that revised plans for ELCIC Convention (Summer 2022) will be announced soon.
