The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare has a current opening for a Nutrition Specialist, WIC in Boise. This position is in the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program in the Division of Health. Applicant may live anywhere in the state of Idaho and work from home.

Our generous benefits package increases the total compensation of a full-time (benefits eligible) Nutrition Specialist, WIC making $29.75/hour to an estimated $42.16/hour.

Example of Duties

  • In-state and out-of-state travel to attend local/statewide meetings, trainings and conduct clinic monitoring.
  • Assist with state agency side of federal program reviews, financial audits, and annual state plan grant applications.
  • Act as the lead for new subgrants and amendments for existing subgrants.
  • Lead financial monitoring of WIC subgrantees including reviewing budgets, approving monthly invoices, determining subgrant amounts, and onsite monitoring.
  • Prepare monthly WIC financials for reporting to grantor and quarterly WIC financials for state budget review.
  • Monitor compliance of federal regulations and provide consultation and technical assistance in delivery of public health services.
  • Develop project goals, objectives and strategies.
  • Assist in providing nutrition support and education to WIC subgrantees including developing education and staff training materials as needed.
  • Develop, recommend, and coordinate the implementation of policies and procedures for a public health program.
  • Assist in planning and implementation of statewide training and conferences.
  • Analyze WIC program data and report to stakeholders. 
  • Assist with the development and testing of program specific software applications.

Certification:
  • Registered Dietitian by the American Dietetic Association
  • Eligible for licensure as a dietitian with the State of Idaho (Licensure MUST be obtained PRIOR to appointment)
Considerable knowledge of:
  • Maternal and child nutrition
Experience:
  • Planning, implementing and evaluating a nutrition program
  • Interpreting statistical and scientific findings in nutrition
  • Providing nutrition consultation

Additional Qualifications: Are not required; however, having the minimum qualifications and the education and/or experience below will increase your score.
 

  1. Some knowledge of public health practices. Gained by working in a public health program or completing public health related college courses.
  2. Demonstrated professional experience as a dietitian. Gained by working as a registered dietitian for at least six months.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION This position requires being certified as a Registered Dietitian (RD) with the American Dietetic Association. In addition, you must be eligible for licensure by the State of Idaho as a Dietitian in accordance with Idaho Code, Section 54-3506.
